Students cannot participate in any physical activity related to Academic Magnet Athletics until a number of digital forms are complete and approved. All forms, once approved, remain valid for the entire school year for which they are submitted, expiring yearly on June 30th. Completing and having Pre-Participation Registration Forms approved by the Athletic Director does not guarantee a student-athlete a place on their chosen team(s) but is necessary in order to try out. Parents and students must create separate accounts, linked through Big Teams, using different emails and/or mobile numbers. The Athletic Director cannot approve any forms submitted by a student until they have been approved by a parent/guardian through whom the account is linked. This is a safety feature instituted by BigTeams to protect the identity of minors. Students must be sure to create accounts using accurate information, including their official name from school registration, date of birth, high school graduation year, and school. School of the Arts students electing to try out for Academic Magnet teams under Proviso 1.95 must select Academic Magnet High School at the time of registering their account (not Charleston County School of the Arts) in order for their forms to be viewable by the Athletic Director. If you need assistance with Big Teams or need more information, please click SELF HELP at the top of the main BigTeams page after you create an account, consult the help documents, or contact the Athletic Director. Begin your Big Teams account Forms: Physical Form – Please note these must be dated after April 1 of the previous school year in order to be valid for the current school year. Sports physicals can be obtained at most pediatrician offices, primary care doctors, and walk-in clinics. The only page that needs to be uploaded is the page the doctor signs; the history form will be completed digitally during account creation. 9th graders only: Academic Magnet falls under special guidelines related to all magnet schools that do not have a traditionally defined attendance zone. As a result, no freshmen can compete in any VARSITY sport until the appropriate form is submitted and approved by the Athletic Director. No action is needed by parents/guardians to get this step taken care of. 10th-12th grade transfer students only: Any 10th-12th grade student that transfers to Academic Magnet must also complete a supplementary eligibility form in order to be legally eligible to compete. No 10th-12th grade may compete in any Academic Magnet sport until this form is completed and provided to the Athletic Director for evaluation, submission, and approval. Athletic Insurance: Charleston County School District requires all student-athletes to carry athletic insurance, regardless if they are already covered under a health insurance plan of any type. The insurance premium is $53 per school year. An athlete who has paid their insurance in one season and wishes to play an additional sport(s) in the same school year only pays the premium during the first sport season they participate in for that school year. Please visit RevTrak to complete this payment. In the event of an injury in which any doctor’s appointment is necessary, please contact the Athletic Trainer to complete and file a claim immediately.
