RAPTOR SPORTS BANQUET PROGRAMS AND AWARDS

Heart of the Lion Scholarship Award 

This award is given in honor of Marley Lion, Class of 2012 by his mother, Liz Paige and the AMHS Booster Club, whom was tragically murdered in June 2012, shortly after graduation. It shall be awarded to a four year AMHS senior student athlete who has played a sport every year that he/she has been at AMHS. This award carries a financial scholarship to the recipient.  In 2024, the scholarship benefit was $5,000.00 toward college expenses.

Curtis S. Hoffman Award

In honor of former Athletic Director and teacher, Curtis S. Hoffman (at AMHS from 2003-2017), this award recognizes an outstanding non-Senior AMHS male athlete and female athlete, as voted by the coaches. The criteria for this award is athletic ability, athletic honors received (all-state, all region, etc.), statistics, and overall record in individual sports. Raptor spirit and academic focus may also be taken into account.  (Read more about Mr. Hoffman here).

 

Sharon Williams Spirit Award 

In 1989, Coach Sharon Williams started teaching Physical Education to students in grades 9 through 12 at AMHS when located on the Burke High School campus.  She moved with AMHS when it relocated to the Old Naval Base and again when the school moved to the Bonds-Wilson campus.  Coach Williams was the AMHS Athletic Director from 1996-2003. She continued at AMHS as a PE Coach until December 2017 when she retired.  In 2018, she returned as the AMHS Athletic Director until 2022.  This award recognizes an AMHS student who demonstrates loyalty and dedication to AMHS Athletics.  The recipient is selected by the AMHS Booster Club in celebration of Raptor school spirit.
